Hal was more than a father—he was a friend, a supporter, and a true example of what it means to live a life centered on others. Known for his generosity and kind heart, Hal believed in helping anyone in need, no questions asked. Whether it was offering a ride to a stranger, supporting local businesses, or simply showing up for his family and community, he lived each day with purpose and compassion.
Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in his 40s, Hal faced the challenges of this complex autoimmune disease with strength and positivity. MS affects the central nervous system, disrupting communication between the brain and body, and its symptoms can vary from day to day. Despite the progression of the disease, Hal never let it define him. He remained active in his community, continued to support those around him, and approached life with resilience and gratitude.
One of the most powerful parts of Hal’s story is that his illness was often invisible. On his good days, he appeared just like anyone else—but behind the scenes, he faced fatigue, mobility challenges, and the unpredictability that comes with MS. Still, he chose to focus on others, always asking how he could help rather than dwelling on his own struggles.
Hal passed away in 2013, but his legacy continues to inspire everything we do at I Move For Hal. His life is the reason we are committed to raising MS Awareness, supporting MS research, and encouraging others to lead with kindness and service.
When we say “Move for Hal,” it’s more than just a name—it’s a reminder to live like he did: with compassion, generosity, and a willingness to make a difference in someone else’s life every single day.
